The answer to power generation in 21st century

ALLEGRO

ALLEGRO Project

Gas-cooled Fast Reactor Demonstrator

ALLEGRO is a concept of a demonstration unit of the GFR (gas-cooled fast reactor) technology, developed in Europe with the aim to prove viability, safety, and reliability of the whole concept of a high temperature, gas-cooled, fast spectrum reactor.

Advanced Technology

Unique Design Features

Fast neutron spectrum

Aimed at minimizing nuclear waste and closing the fuel cycle.

High Temperature

Up to 850°C to demonstrate high-potential heat applications.

Unique Safety Features

With the aim to reach unprecedented levels of safety.

Firts-of-a-kind

First prototype of the gas fast reactor (GFR) technology.

Developed in Europe

One of European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative (ESNII) technologies.

Gen IV Technology

Selected as one of 6 most promising technologies by Generation IV Forum (GIF).

The Development Team

V4G4 Centre of Excellence

Development of ALLEGRO is governed by a consortium named V4G4 Centre of Excellence, which associates four founding members (alphabetically) – EK from Hungary, NCBJ from Poland, UJV Rez from the Czech Republic, VUJE from Slovakia and two associated members – CEA from France and CVR from the Czech Republic.
Position within Europe

ESNII supported project

ALLEGRO is one of the fast reactor technologies supported by ESNII (European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative) within the SNETP (Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform). ESNII addresses the need for demonstration of Generation IV Fast Neutron Reactor technologies, together with supporting research infrastructures, fuel facilities and R&D work.
